Kiva Dunes is known for 18 beautiful holes of golf along the Gulf of Mexico on Alabama’s Fort Morgan Peninsula. But – did you know there is a hidden 19th hole?
When construction began on the award-winning tract in 1994, Jim Edgemon, the property’s developer and former U.S. Open Champion, Jerry Pate had the foresight to design and build a hidden 19th hole on the course.
This hidden hole serves as a replacement hole should an issue arise on the playable holes at Kiva Dunes. As a coastal course, you have to plan for these things. Should a storm uproot a tree or two, rendering a hole temporarily unplayable, golfers at Kiva Dunes will be challenged with another hole that they’ve never played before, and probably never even noticed.
One of the great things about this hole? (if you have ever played at Kiva Dunes) It was right in front of you the whole time. The green, the tee box, the Bermuda grass fringe/fairway, it is all there, sitting (luckily) unused to this day. We challenge you to try to spot the “hidden hole” next time you’re on the course at Kiva Dunes.
HINT: You’ve probably hit a tee shot at the green without ever knowing it!
